This rabbitry all started with a 4H project. I was only aloud to have a bunny if I joined 4H. I researched rabbits day & night, and searched for a long time trying to find that perfect breed. I decided to get a mini lop, and purchased my first one from the nearby swap meet. He was only around 4 weeks old, and at the time we didn't know any better. That first bunny, a broken black mini lop buck only lasted a few days. My sister also had gotten a mini lop doe that same day. She was 6 weeks old, still to young, but she made it. I had to find another bunny, and searched, and searched, and searched. The best thing I could find was a black mini lop buck from West Virginia. I named him Ace.

I showed Ace in 4H that year, and him being the quality he was, got 4th out of 5 sr. Mini Lops. My sister had not yet joined 4H, but did the next year. In the mean time we bred Ace & Lucy for our first litter. There ended up being 8! We only planned on having one litter of bunnies, but things changed from there.

Back when I was still looking for the breed I wanted, I had been very drawn to American Fuzzy Lops. I couldn't find any around for a long time, but then decided to get one for the fair. I ended up getting a pair of them, but never ended up showing or breeding them.

Although we were doing well with the mini lops, I wanted something different. I had seen the Holland Lop pictures before, but thought that they were ugly bunnies. I decided to take another look at them though after someone had mentioned the country Holland. I then decided they weren't so bad and found myself my starter herd buck, Josh's JHG1, which I call Comet.

I also purchased some of my main foundation Hollands from Daisy Patch rabbits, Daisy Patch's Dervla who produced my show winning doe Amanda's Dervla, Daisy Patch's DP134 Amber who has produced many wonderful kits for me, Daisy Patch's DP180 "Dustie" who also has beautiflul children, and Daisy Patch's DP186 "Misty" who did very well for me.
|
Since then I have produced many show quality Hollands. These rabbits are my hobby, and I enjoy them very much. There have been hard spots along the way, but worth it. When you have worked hard, and produced a winning Holland that really makes you feel good!
